Deciding not to endure the Seattle winter this year, I've gone to the southern hemisphere for six months. First a month of travel in Bolivia and north and central Chile, then on to southern Chile for my internship with the Chol Chol Foundation in Temuco. Fundacion Chol Chol is a fair trade organization that promotes the artisan work of Mapuche weavers.

rurrenabaque
It is such a relief to fly to lower altitude. The air in the Amazon basin is so much more palpable and within a few hours we are feeling back to our healthy selves. The journey from La Paz was enough action for one day: riding in a prop plane that grazed the edges of the Andes, landing in grass and dirt, then hopping on motorcycles to arrive at Hotel Rurrenabaque. This tiny town on the Beni River is vibrant and cheerful and the people seem less burdened than they do in La Paz. It is so great to be able to breathe again!
