Deciding not to endure the Seattle winter this year, I've gone to the southern hemisphere for six months. First a month of travel in Bolivia and north and central Chile, then on to southern Chile for my internship with the Chol Chol Foundation in Temuco. Fundacion Chol Chol is a fair trade organization that promotes the artisan work of Mapuche weavers.

madidi national park
From Rurrenabaque it is 2 1/2 hours up the river to the ecolodge where we´ll be staying in Madidi National Park. We meet our guide "Pato" in the morning and enjoy talking with him about the flora and fauna of the area while we ride the river boat in the pouring rain. The sun comes out mid-day and we rest awhile in our jungle accomodations which say "WELCOME TO THE TIGER REST". After a delicious lunch with real vegetables and fruit, we go for a hike with Pato and he pretends to get us lost to add a sense of adventure and I totally fall for it.
