Deciding not to endure the Seattle winter this year, I've gone to the southern hemisphere for six months. First a month of travel in Bolivia and north and central Chile, then on to southern Chile for my internship with the Chol Chol Foundation in Temuco. Fundacion Chol Chol is a fair trade organization that promotes the artisan work of Mapuche weavers.

san pedro de atacama
This place reminds me a lot of rural New Mexico. The cars have to wait for the sheep and goats to pass on the dusty roads in town. We´ve been in Chile about 24 hours and I still haven´t had an empanada! The sun is really bright and intense and the night sky should be equally as impactful. We have signed up for an astronomical tour tonight at 11pm to learn about the southern hemisphere´s skies.
